Got back a couple of days ago. It's taken me a couple of days just to catch enough rest to be able to blog. In fact, I felt sort of like this:
(sorry, Dan, but it's a great picture for the point I wanted to make)
Our group was the only one to put on a skit on the last night and, if I can avoid any modesty, it was a giant hit. I heard from a lot of people, including several faculty, that it was hysterical.
Anyway, I attended with a friend from Juneau. He and I roomed together. Both of us sat in the Houlihan's in the Atlanta airport and were rather wistful and even depressed. Neither of us are touchy-feely, but we recognized that a portion of our lives as lawyers, a good portion, was drawing to a close and we regretted it.
I learned a great deal about myself and was challenged in how I view other people and how I present myself. This class will definitely make a difference when it comes to try my next case - in a couple of weeks. I have a great deal more confidence - hard to believe but its true. Yet at the same time, I realize how much I do not know. I have about 11 or so years of experience and have tried about 20 or so felony trials, probably about 35 - 40 total trials. This was a good backdrop for the course. I have enough experience to be able to appreciate what the instructors are saying but I'm new enough that I don't ignore the instructors.
I will also say that I had a great group. We really melded together and had a great time. I've sent them this website so I better see some comments from them in various postings - tell your weblog audience! Tell them! - in the future. Anyway, Skelley beat me to it, but I wanted to post a picture of our group:
From left to right: Leslie, Tom, Wild Bill, Bruce, Dan, Susan and Michelle. I'm sitting down in front in the Sage Fly Rod T-shirt.
I got the picture from Bruce, who brought his camera. This made me all the more remorseful that I had no digital camera to bring. I will definitely have to remedy that situation. I hope you have enjoyed my contemplations and I hope that all those listed enjoy seeing their picture.
Steve, someone sent me the link to your blog, and I just wanted to say hi and say how nice it is to read good things about NCDC. I'm glad you had a good time and feel like you've learned a lot from us.
I'd give you the link to my LiveJournal but I'd be embarrasssed by how trivial and silly it is. :)
