For those who have not heard, the AK AG is under investigation for inappropriate business dealings. According to the Anchorage Daily News, he was engaged in insider trading and influence peddling (I'm not sure if that's the exact name for it, but it works. Most of my cases have been violent/street crime, not white collar or political crime.) Pretty damming stuff. The link includes links to other articles, including one about legislators of both parties urging the AG to step down or for the Gov to fire him.
When this came to light, Robert Bundy, former US Attorney for AK, was appointed as a special investigator. His report is due out before the beginning of the year. If the ADN (Anchorage Daily News) report is even 1/2 right, I would say that AG Renkes should not only resign, but he should hire himself an attorney ASAP. There are a number of good ones in Anchorage and Juneau. Given Republican control of Congress and White House, Renkes probably won't go to prison. I doubt this whole process will cause him to reconsider his zeal to amend the criminal process to diminish the rights of accused individuals. Too bad.
