Here (registration required) is an interesting story that Orchid Cellmark, a lab that has analyzed DNA for several high profile cases, including OJ Simpson, has fired an analyst for falsifying test data. The analyst apparently substituted data for control samples. This raised the likelihood of a match.
Once again, it is crucial for the defense bar to be able to investigate and examine evidence. How many times have we heard someone say something like, "Well, that person confessed. Why do you continue to work on freeing them?" There have been a great many people who confessed to crimes that they did not commit, as later shown by DNA evidence. Here, we see that we cannot trust the DNA. So now, the defense bar will begin to hear "Why do you fight for those guilty bastards? The DNA evidence shows it was him."
